House_at_Samish_11x15_2015-372x272At Samish island this past week there seemed to be a potential

painting every time I turned around, so I nearly filled my camera’s
memory stick with photos and my sketchbook bulged with drawings.

What really attracted me was the wonderful light. This old home

would not have been quite so interesting without the brilliant
sunlight and the shape of the shadows. Deciding to get creative
with the shade, I brushed in cerulean blue, then dropped in raw
sienna while the blue was still wet. Sometimes adding a warm color
to a cool shape will capture the “light bounce” that occurs even in
cast shadows.
