The thought of “summer camp” conjures up a lot of emotions for people, and for me mostly good memories from Vashon Island many years ago. But as an adult I have had the privilege of enjoying Samish Island Camp twice a year for several years. One might ask why travel to the same place so many times? Well, it is the experience of painting with friends, having wonderful meals available, and a beautiful setting for sketching. Even though the camp is the same each time I go there, I always come home with new inspiration.   This quote from Proust seems to sum up my feelings:  “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”

The painting above is a semi-abstracted rendering of a group of buildings on the island. Even though I pass them every time I go to Samish, there is always something new to see.
